Fairy Land Bog Walk

 Fairy Land Bog Walk

Situated between Kilmurry Cross and Cappagh National School. It is approx. 1.5km long. It was developed in 2005 by Ballycommon Organisation for Local Development with the help of Offaly Leader II and was officially opened by Mr. Brian Cowen in 2006.

This project would not have been possible without the large voluntary effort that was made and the land and labour donated by Bord Na Mona. Mother Nature also helped of course and today Fairy Land Bog Walk and Nature Trail is home to numerous wild trees and flowers such as Beech, Oak, Ash, Pine, Yellow Furze, Holly, Honeysuckle, Bluebells, Ferns, Primroses and many more Just a short distance from the first entrance is a natural arch of ivy that shows nature at its best: - How a fallen tree has become the Ivy plants home.  The walk is alive with birds that come to take advantage of the wild berry buffet. Rabbits, Hares and Squirrels also make an appearance and if you are lucky you might hear the Curlew calling from across the bog.  Recently there has been talk of a new species who have made the bog walk their home. Fairies! If you keep your eyes peeled you might spot their little houses. There are three picnic benches dotted in different locations to allow people to enjoy a picnic or just sit for a while and admire the peaceful surroundings. Then, before you return to your busy lives, why not make a wish in the wishing well.
